The archetypal tent of the nomadic tribes of the north American plains, this simple graceful structure evolved over generations of use (View a brief history of the Tipi). The sturdy conical form naturally protects it from strong winds. Whilst the smoke flaps draw air through the tent so that it naturally air conditions itself on a hot day, whilst whilst clearing the smoke from the central fire pit in the cool of the evening. The fully fitted lining helps to channel air in an upward direction and adds a splash of color to the snug interior.

At Tentworks we have long involvement working with these structures, over the years we have built a number designs attributed to various tribal groups, not to mention rigorously testing them year round in all weather conditions. Through experience we have taken the best elements from each and incorporated some technical innovations to make the structures more stable, tougher and easier to use. We believe that our tipis are amongst some of the most refined examples of the structure on the market today.

Your basic tipi package consists of......

Cover and door made mainly from 15oz fwr (fire, water and rot retardant) cotton canvas, with your choice of color trim details in 12oz rw (rot and water resistant) vat dyed cotton canvas. All seams are double stitched for strength, and the cover is heavily reinforced at all of the major stress points.

  • Fully fitted Lining again in your choice of 12oz rw colored canvas with the addition of matching pvc mud wall which significantly increases the lifespan of this component.
  • Set of soft wood poles which are locally sourced from sustainably managed forestry and finished to a high standard.
  • Plus all pegs, lines, pins and instructions to get your structure up.
  • Optional extras include coir matting for the floor, trivets for going over the fire and a range of sheep skins and other soft furnishings to make your tipi more luxurious.

You may also want to consider the option of an ozan (internal rain hood), most people who have any experience of tipis will freely admit that the only downside to the structure is the large hole in the roof, so we have developed a ventilated inner canopy that ensures that you maintain dry living space in the back half of the tipi.
